Common information

betamethasone dipropionate 20 gm

Topical betamethasone is a category C pregnancy drug.

Betamethasone is not generally suitable for children, although short courses of up to two weeks may occasionally be prescribed for a child by a skin specialist doctor.

Betamethasone should not be mixed with local anesthetics that contain preservatives such as methylparaben as these may cause flocculation of the steroid.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. The effect on final adult height is unknown. The pill reduces an arterial pressure in people with high tension as well. In general, ointments are preferred for the treatment of psoriasis because of their more occlusive properties. Similarly, short courses of steroid treatment are used for exacerbations of atopic dermatitis.
