Caution should be exercised when metoclopramide is administered to a nursing mother.
Metoclopramide is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity or intolerance to the drug.
Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. The maximum treatment duration is 5 days for prevention of delayed chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting CINV. Levodopa or dopaminergic agonists and metoclopramide have a mutual antagonism see section 4. Do I need a prescription for metoclopramide. Metoclopramide is equipotent to chlorpromazine in preventing vomiting, at one-tenth of chlorpromazine doses Harrington et al.
Ask your doctor before use if you are taking the following medications:
Prothrombin time should be monitored in patients at risk and exogenous vitamin K administered as indicated.
Others imply that the opacities resolve spontaneously on discontinuation of the medication.
Serum concentrations of sulfapyridine may be higher in patients who are slow acetylators, leading to an increased risk of adverse reactions.
Or you may be able to quit smoking.
This drug can also cause confusion in seniors. Benztropine mesylate, 1 to 2 mg intramuscularly, may also be used to reverse these reactions. Metoclopramide can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby.
Opioids can cause delayed gastric emptying, but metoclopramide enhances gastric motility and increases intestinal peristalsis, which reduces reflux of stomach contents and the urge to vomit.
